Mauritius - recommended hotel with toddler?

Postby SJH Mummy » Thu Feb 21, 2013 12:49 pm

Hi there,

I'm hoping a few of you might have been to Mauritius with a Toddler and can recommend some hotels to me.

We have a 14 month old but she will be nearer 2 years old when we plan to go.
Ideally we would like a seperate sleeping space for her - this could be a dressing room or ideally a little bedroom for her (she will still be in a cot), but don't want to go to the expense of interconnecting rooms if possible.
if we need to stay in the room in the evening whilst she is asleep, we'd like somewhere that has a lovely terrace/balcony so we can relax there and still feel like we're on holiday!

I think she might be too youg for kids clubs, unless anyone can tell me any different, it would be lovely to have the option to have a couple of hours a day to ourselves with her entertained?

Any tips at all would be welcome re flights - day/night what is easiest, transfers - long/short? all inc/B&B? babysitting - is it super expensive?

Also, is Mauritius generally super super expensive? Were happy to spend some money getting the right place but don't want to go crazy!

Many thanks

SJH

Have a look at sugar beach. Mauritius can be very expensive: eating out and drinking. Maybe think about all inclusive.

You should talk to Tots Too holiday company. They will give you all the info you need on suitable resorts in Maurirus for you and kids. We used them when we booked to go to Oman and Caribbean with our babies/toddler and we found the perfect resorts and had the perfect holidays. Good luck

The Anahita is perfect for you. We went there in December. Amazing kids clubs which takes under twos which is unusual. They looked after our son while he had his lunchtime sleep so we could have a few hours of adult time. Beautiful resort.

We stayed at Paradise. Brilliant kids club open from 8am-11:30pm! Taking care of babies too. All inclusive. My two year old went out did fishing with them, and many interesting activities daily. The resort has heated pool too in case the weather changes. Beautiful resort, fine sandy beach (not like other beaches on the island can hurt your feet a bit). Wonderful food. Will definitely go back again. I will be fully comfortable leaving my baby and toddler with the staff at the kids club, off to to some scuba diving next time.

Thanks for the above recommendation! :)

Here are some wonderful family-friendly hotels in Mauritius:

I would say, however, that none of them have supervised creches for under 3s (though your toddler could use the kids club facilities with your own supervision - not quite the point I know!)

The best option for families with toddlers is The Residence, see here: http://www.totstoo.com/hotel_the-residence

The Residence features Tots Too's exclusive nanny service, where you can pre-book a local nanny for your stay. This way your toddler can get some 1-on-1 attention, while you get a breather.

Hope this helps!

Hi there, we staid at LUX belle mare in November when our daughter was 16 months. It was great - very family friendly, both pool and beach are fabulous for toddlers, our daughter loved it. It's hard to find a room that has a separate space for a child without going for a suite or interconnecting rooms (I looked into that option for other accommodations as well) but we required a room as close to the pool as possible so that we could leave the monitor on when little one was napping in the afternoon (she still has 2 hours nap every day) and my husband and I could sit pool side - was great! There wasn't a creche and the baby club started from 3 years old but that couple of hours every afternoon were our break from parenthood duties ;-) every room has a little terrace and the one on the ground floor have a little patio so you could sit out there if you want to in the evening. Another plus of the hotel is that even if you are half board children under 3 don't pay for their meals - and they have a very good children menu.
Mauritius is lovely, and it is one of the most child friendly places I ever been too. Finally BA goes direct and it's an overnight flight both ways - there were lots of children on it and they ALL slept all the way (or almost all the way) there and back.

We stayed at le Touessrok about five years ago when my son had just turned 2. We hired a nanny from the hotel to look after the kids during the day (in the kids club). She wasn't very expensive I seem to remember (about 8 euros an hour) and was great. She also babysat in the evening so we could have dinner on our own. If you can go during term time you'll find the rates a lot cheaper. Trailfinders always come up with good deals for us and we often get room upgrades through them. We got the best suite in the hotel at Le Touessrok. It also has two islands, one of them private, so you don't have to end up on the same beach every day.

We have lots of places on our website which I set up exactly as I was asking these sorts of questions and wanted that room with a balcony so we had somewhere to sit once our children were in bed.

Please do have a look on my site www.luxuryandlittleones.com or email me kathryn@luxuryandlittleones.com and I can help. I do have some hotels which are waiting to go on the website so if you don't see exactly what you want dn't worry there are other hotels we can book for you.

Hope that helps.
