Wilson’s School

Postby Annabel (admin) » Thu Nov 13, 2008 9:11 pm

One of the most prestigious boys’ schools in the country, Wilson’s is a state grammar (selective). Scored ‘1’ (the highest mark) in every category of the recent Ofsted report and in March won an Evening Standard award for Academic Excellence. Leavers go on to Oxbridge, Imperial College, LSE, etc. Great facilities. Strong on maths, computing, classics, sports and the arts, boys are happy and the headmaster is excellent. CCF, trips abroad, and opportunities to mix with pupils from Wallington Girls’ at social events and through drama productions. Widely acknowledged to be the closest the state sector comes to a public school – so if you’re looking for an alternative to a fee paying school for bright boys it should definitely be considered. Only slight drawback is location – it’s in Waddon, Sutton, but every year the number of boys travelling from Wandsworth Common and Balham stations is increasing. Very oversubscribed – 1,150 applications for 145 places. Entrance is by exam only (maths, English, verbal reasoning), no interview, so if your child isn’t at prep school it’s worth investing in some tuition from around 9 up. 995 pupils. 11-18.
