Is your child SchoolReady? Free pilot classes!

Postby SchoolReady » Fri Jul 01, 2011 2:28 pm

SchoolReady – A reminder of the free Pilot Classes for 3-4 year olds

Is your child going to school in September 2012? Is your child ready for school?

To get the most out of their first year, evidence shows that children who are ‘School Ready’ do better than others. We are currently looking for children who would go to school in September 2012 to come to experience the SchoolReady class for free, as part of a pilot programme running in September 2011. Please contact Nicolette@schoolready.co.uk or Elizabeth@schoolready.co.uk for further information.

SchoolReady for children who start school in September 2012

Postby SchoolReady » Wed Jul 06, 2011 1:32 pm

Just to add some more information if you are wondering what SchoolReady is about!

It is a new and exciting weekly class for pre-schoolers, 3-4 years old, which is launching in 2012 in the Clapham area. Research has shown that children get the most out of school if they are socially and physically prepared in the skills they will need before they go to school. SchoolReady will supplement your child's nursery experience and is specifically targeting the skills they need for school.

The class will ensure that your child is ready for school and able to hit the ground running when school starts – from shoes to pencil grips, through table manners to sharing nicely, and what to expect on that all important first day, the classes will ensure that your child will be school ready!

We are currently looking for children who would go to school in September 2012 to come to experience the SchoolReady class for free, as part of a pilot programme running in September 2011. Please contact Nicolette@schoolready.co.uk or Elizabeth@schoolready.co.uk or message us through NappyValleyNet for further information. We would like to get parents’ feedback on their experience so, if you are willing to do that, we are also offering participants 25% off the price of the full course once it launches in April 2012.

Isn't this what pre-school is for? I'm not sure I really see what the difference is?

Any decent nursery, combined with a normal family life will teach children the skills needed for school. Plus reception teachers are very well aware of what help is needed when children start school.

Well put Mrsmrcd and schoolgatesmum. I'm sure there'll be parents out there though who will happily part with money in order to ensure their little one is (in their mind ) ahead of the game when starting school. It's free now but once the troubleshooting and market research has been done there'll be more than the odd bampot willing to pay for for what comes naturally through good parenting and good early years teaching. Kids are very adaptable, let them learn at their own pace, don't push so hard because that can be more than a little counter productive.

Hi all,

Maybe it is just because writing can sometime appear quite harsh, but I think the comments made here are really negative about this new business.

I am not interested in taking part (my daughter is only 2 year old and in full time nursery care – so I think she will have all the skills needed to start school without any problem when the time will come) but some people might be interested (if the child stays at home with only the parents or a nannie? I don't know...). And if they are willing to pay for it, where is the problem? Is that so wrong?

Those two ladies are starting a new business and (based on their website - it will be a franchise) may create jobs for themselves and others.
I always think it is easy to denigrate any initiative when you are not interested.

I am not interested in taking part but good luck for the new business.

(Please don’t fire bullets at me ;) I don’t know those ladies, nor the business they are promoting – it is more a general comment...)
Thanks.

I feel quite strongly about this. It just seems completely unnecessary and quite a cynical way to make money by pretending there's a need for something where there simply isn't one. But then, I'm not a typical Nappy Valley resident I suppose.

Mrsmrcd,

I don't think it is a question of whether you are a 'typical' nappyvalley resident. I just think they are entitled to try and start their business without it being shot down in flames so quickly. Maybe their positioning needs some tweaking and feedback from people such as you can help.

Some people may be interested in a session a week of this type if they don't feel their child currently gets this type of thing. Not every child goes to pre-school for example! Personally I'm not interested in it for my son as he goes to pre-school and I think he is getting all the preparation for school that he needs. However, I might think differently if he had not been attending pre-school.

I'm not shooting anyone down in flames! All I'm saying is that if it is as it seems then it is unnecessary for the vast majority of children who go to some kind of nursery or playgroup to learn how to behave in a group, and learn the other behaviour at home.
