Ski prep classes

Postby Btwc79 » Mon Feb 20, 2023 8:23 pm

I have been skiing during half term and although I practice a few sports (tennis, Pilates, swimming and walking) I realised my legs are actually not strong enough (anymore!) for several hours of skiing.
In France and Italy they have ski preparation classes, with tailored exercises and even machines where you can practice skiing. People start after summer to be ready to hit the slopes in December. Does anything like that exist around here?
Thanks!

I don't know of any specific machines that you could use to prepare the body for skiing but I would think that reformer pilates with a focus on the legs would work well.

Hi, I run a class called Pilates Barre Glutes which focusses on legs, glutes, core and balance using small equipment and would be a good preparation class for skiing.
If you would like any further information please don’t hesitate to contact me via my website or on email.
Thank you so much!

Hi,

We don't run ski fit classes per say at the moment, however all our group classes will most definitely prepare you for skiing, working all those areas, legs, glutes and core and also cardiovascular work which helps enormously for a few hours a day on the slopes.

Do take a look at our website as we run various sessions a week at various times of the morning and varying in length, with popular 30 minute hybrid sessions that you can do outdoors or at home live via zoom.

Hi,

Have a look at this link to a youtube video for leg strengthening. It's run by a group of 3 American physios (all have doctorates) called The Prehab Guys. They're excellent, safe and if you have a google of them and peruse their website or youtube channel, you'll see that they ensure everything you do is done in a safe, appropriate way.

Hi,

I'm 30 year qualified ski instructor and yes there are specific exercises you can do beforehand to prepare for your holiday.  Also walking more, cycling etc.  One often forgotten element is warming up and stretching correctly before you go and ski PLUS stretching at the end of the ski day.  It doesn't have to be long or boring but it will help keep that stiffness and soreness at bay.
