A young couple trying to get on the property ladder

Dear all,
My boyfriend Nicholas and I are currently trying to buy our first home (a 1 bed flat). We have been saving for several years (we've been determined to buy without help from parents) and are finally in a position to attempt to buy somewhere, but are finding things pretty tough, with estate agents making life very difficult. We'd love to stay in SW/SE London, and I thought I'd post to see if anyone by chance was looking to sell a 1 bed property privately?
