Wandsworth Test results?

Postby secondtimer » Tue Oct 04, 2016 12:12 pm

Hello!

Does anyone know if the Wandsworth Test results for 2017 entry are out today?

I was wondering whether this year's parents felt moving the test forward had positively/negatively influenced their child's result and whether it would make a difference to the schools they listed on the secondary application form. I believe the intention was to reduce the number of applications Graveney received but was interested in whether this will materialise and if so whether parents would choose another partially selective school (I.e. Burntwood/Ernst Bevin) or their local school (I.e. Bolingbroke/Chestnut Grove/Harris) as an alternative first choice.

My child is in year 5 and we are on the cusp of such catchments so I'm trying to get a grasp of how things might change by next year and how 'test ready' it's necessary to be after a long summer break.

Best wishes to anyone waiting for results and any insights/experiences appreciated!

Secondtimer,

The Wandsworth Test results are out. My daughter received hers yesterday.

I agree that it will be interesting to see what the effect will be of having the results before the applications.

I suspect that the number of Graveney applications might well go down (for those with results that have no chance of getting in) but I doubt that there will be a material change in the results threshold needed to get in (in the last few years it has been very stable - at 253 first offer and 244 or 246 by the end of August). It could even increase if there are children who got surprisingly good results and their parents had not previously contemplated Graveney.

I can't see that it will have any effect Ernst Bevin or Burntwood. Although these are nominally partially selective schools - they are not competitive to get into. In the last couple of years, all applicants to Ernst Bevin were offered a place. For Burntwood, the entry mark (by the end of August 2016) was 177 (equivalent to a child in the 24th percentile).
