Airport delays in Europe

Postby NYE31 » Thu Aug 03, 2017 10:09 am

Has anyone experienced this, we are off to Mallorca next weekend & slightly worried by the reports of people missing flights home due to the delays.

Just come back from Mallorca. There was a bit of a queue at both arrival and departure because they were scanning passports rather than just ignoring you as you walk through as of previous visits. I'd say the queues were 20 mins each so not too awful.
Have a lovely hol!

Agree - I can't work out whether it's a just newspapers having a go or something much more serious.

I'd just turn up super early and spend time in duty free!

I am pretty sure that it will just be media hype!

I went to a tiny airport in France last week and they were scanning the passports then typing something into a computer which took quite a bit longer than the usual quick glance so the queue built up (although it was only one plane load). Same on the way out. Probably worth leaving yourself a bit of extra time on the way home just in case.

We flew to Mallorca on Sat from Gatwick. Due to newspaper reports we arrived 3 h ahead of our flight time. We sailed through check in and security faster than ever before and wondered what all of the fuss was about. We were delayed by 2h thanks to bad weather but we saw none of the problems reported in the press. On arrival at Palma we again sailed through passport control. The only problem we had was my daughter wheeling her suitcase over Claudia Winkleman's toes! Sorry Claudia!
