HORNSBY HOUSE PUPILS ACHIEVE OUTSTANDING 11+ RESULTS

Last Updated on : 28th March 2017
Year 6 at Hornsby House School have achieved an outstanding set of results in their secondary school entrance exams.  41% of the children in the year group were offered a total of 43 awards, including 24 academic scholarships, as well as two all-rounder scholarships and awards for sport, music and art.

Whitgift remains a very popular destination, with half the boys in the year group accepting places there.  James Allen’s Girls’ School and Streatham & Clapham High School together account for half of the girls.  14 offers were received from Alleyn’s and 13 from Dulwich College but smaller groups have ended up going to those schools, as well as to King’s College School Wimbledon, Emanuel and Wimbledon High School.  A variety of destinations make up the remainder, including schools further afield such as Epsom College and Woldingham, leading state schools such as Graveney and Tiffin, and boarding schools, such as Benenden.

The range of schools that Hornsby House children go on to has expanded in recent years.  King’s College School Wimbledon only started 11+ entry into the senior school last year and we are delighted that four of our boys received offers this year, including two academic scholarships.  Together with the girls going on to Wimbledon High, this means 10% of our current Year 6 will be going to these two popular and highly selective schools.

In their most recent inspection in October 2016, the Independent Schools Inspectorate judged Hornsby House as excellent, both in the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements and in the quality of pupils’ personal development.  The report also noted that, “the school works closely with parents to prepare pupils for senior school entrance examinations and the demands of secondary education”.

Edward Rees, Headmaster, said, “11+ entry to London day schools is very competitive and I am delighted with the outstanding results achieved by our current Year 6.  The impressive number of offers from selective secondary schools is a reflection of the children’s hard work and the excellent quality of the teaching at Hornsby House.”
