James Allen’s Girls’ School celebrate a fantastic set of GCSE results

The girls at James Allen’s Girls’ School have achieved an incredible set of GCSE results in 2019 with 91% of their results being graded 9-7 (equivalent to A*/A). An impressive 47% of all results
were graded at 9, the very highest grade achievable.

63% of students achieved nothing less than a Grade 7 (equivalent to A grade), and 30% of the students achieved all 9 or 8 grades. There were 9 students who achieved a Grade 9 in every subject that they sat.

Results in STEM subjects were very strong; in Mathematics IGCSE 97% of pupils were graded 9-7 (A*/A), in Chemistry IGCSE 98% were graded 9-7 and in Biology IGCSE 94% were graded 9-7.
Amongst other notable successes are the results in subjects such as Geography, English, English Literature, Religious Studies, Italian, Russian and Spanish where at least half of all candidates
were awarded a grade 9.

Headmistress, Sally-Anne Huang said:
“I always feel that Year 11 is a tough time with most pupils facing their first public exams and studying a huge range of subjects. Once again, though, the JAGS girls and teachers have emerged from the trial of GCSEs in triumph. Clearly, this number of top grades is outstanding, but it’s also been a privilege to see this group of girls develop over the years; they are going to make fantastic sixth formers”

Religious Studies also achieved a fantastic 96% of grades at 9-7. Head of Religious Studies, Debbie Lewis, commented, ‘The RS Department is so proud of the hard work all the girls put in to getting really great results. Their huge efforts have been rewarded and our staff team couldn’t be more thrilled. Congratulations! Mazel tov!’

Pupil case studies

Hibah Khan achieved an excellent seven 9s, four 8s and an A* in a Further Maths qualification. She will be studying Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Geography at A level, and she hopes
to read Economics at university in the future. Hibah commented, ‘I’m looking forward to the independence in my studies that Sixth Form will give me, and delving further into the subjects that I love. I think the teachers are so supportive, and have been even more so when preparing for GCSEs, but they have been great throughout. They are helpful, offering extra support whenever anyone needed it. That definitely helps people achieve better results, and I’m really thankful for that.’

Beatrice Doherty also did phenomenally well, achieving nine 9s and one 8. She will study Biology, Chemistry, History and French at A level and hopes to read Medicine at university in the future. In preparation for her application, she has undertaken work experience at King’s College Hospital with a surgeon over the course of the summer, and has found the whole experience fascinating. In speaking about her GCSE results, she commented, ‘All of the teachers were really helpful, and I couldn’t have done it without them. I’m really looking forward to focusing my energy on the subjects I love from September.’
