Eaton House Belgravia has just launched Belgravia Bunnies – a music, sensory and fun once a week experience for babies aged 8 weeks to two years. It is open to Eaton House Belgravia parents, those who are registered for 2+ entry into the Nursery and 4+ entry into Reception and also other parents who just want to come and have a wonderful session with their babies and make new friends.

As a school, Eaton House Belgravia wants to be as welcoming and as supportive of our wider community as we can be and we recognise the importance of presenting opportunities and spaces for parents with infants and children younger than even our Cubs at 2+.

Furthermore, the school wants to create a space where it can continue to develop and strengthen the social fabric amongst its tight-knit community.

These sessions, which will be run on a weekly basis by Ms Georgina Maughan, Eaton House Belgravia Head of Performance, will offer an opportunity for our youngest community members to take part in a music and sensorial experience – think bubbles, some gentle but exciting sounds and a calm environment for your baby to be welcomed into our setting.

What was the first session like?

The first session was a huge success. Eight babies, parents, carers and grandparents settled on soft pastel cushions or chairs, surrounded by an array of silk scarves and musical instruments that made pleasing jingling and banging sounds, which even the smallest children loved.

The cloud lighting on the ceiling of what will be the new library and the pale green ‘mountain’ walls suited the mood perfectly. We may transfer to our elegant green hall in future – depending on numbers!

Many educational musical toys were scattered about, along with ‘Belgravia Bear’ who joined in the session as Ms Georgie’s enthusiastic Number Two, dancing, jumping, twirling round and round and encouraging his new young friends.

Participants enjoyed a range of sensory fun, accompanied by Ms Georgie with her tiny purple ukulele. Participants, from one baby of 8 weeks, to tiny toddlers revelled in the song and dance sessions, which included the song ‘You Are My Sunshine’, to encourage the sun out, and lots of fun movement and instrument play.

One song involved tiny bubbles representing the stars, and the children gazed in wonder as they cascaded down. Another used the delicate scarves in soft colours to represent the autumn leaves falling to earth. But one of the biggest hits was ‘Little Bunny Sleeping’, where participants had to pretend to be sleepy bunnies who were woken up to do enthusiastic bunny hops, mostly supported by their parents.

It was a lovely occasion and a great opportunity for Belgravia parents to meet other parents with babies of the same age. This is part of our intention to continue to strengthen opportunities for our wider community and we look forward to welcoming you and your little ones on Tuesdays moving forward.
