FlipOut in Earlsfield, Wandsworth was visited by Annabel
Our not-so-little part of SW London, from Wimbledon up to Fulham and Battersea across to Putney, has one of Europe’s highest densities of under-twos per square km and that means there is an insatiable demand for pretty much all child-friendly activities.
And what may have started with baby drumming and toddler taming classes in quiet corners of church halls seems to have hit “Peak Activity” with the launch of “FlipOut” in Earlsfield.
And I don’t mean huge as in the size of Volvo’s latest XC 90, I mean huge as in:
“How could I regularly drive past this site on my way to Southside and not realise there was an old bingo hall here big enough to build a boat in?” huge.
Almost £2million has been spent transforming this gargantuan void into London’s largest trampoline park. If you haven’t been to these sort of centres before (and there is a rival one outside Guildford), imagine a sports centre sized hanger where somebody has decided to lay a succession of trampolines instead of carpet.
And then asked those cool urban dancers from “Britain’s Got Talent” to decorate it with graffiti before parking a London taxi in the middle and turning it into a DJ Booth.
But it’s not just about bouncing higher than Donald Trump in the US polls.
There’s equipment for free running enthusiasts, a multi-level Flip Street (in effect a trampoline skate park) and plans to bring in yoga, ninja fitness and a moon shot programme. Ok, I made that last one up but if they’d told me it was true I’d have believed them.
If that wasn’t enough there are half pipes, basketball areas and the UK’s biggest foam pit sitting alongside a dedicated kids arena with smaller trampolines and a mini foam pit.
According to director Jon Inwards, “We want people to have the best hour of their lives when they enter the park and we’ve done all we can to ensure they’re transported into another world once inside.”
I think they flipping well have!
