Re: Honest feedback on Balham for a family?

I would highly recommend Earlsfield and the area of the Magdalen Estate - a priority catchment area for Beatrix Potter school. Because the school prioritises living in the catchment over siblings out of catchment you are basically guaranteed a place. The gardens of the houses in the area are much bi...

Re: Tenancy Deposit Scheme- Arbitration

Yes I went through this process as a tenant. Our landlord was also asking for excessive amounts for things - we were outraged and disputed it. We felt he had maybe $100 of legitimate claims to keep from us...not thousands. It was a lot of work for us as we worked hard on documenting our case and the...

Re: Nappy Valley estate agent commission levels?

We paid 1% +VAT (but for a semi detached-house) when selling last year. We had no minimum contract for the listing. The agent told us though that their service and professionalism would mean we would want to stick with them so he didn't do minimum periods (though I recall on the contract you had to ...

Re: staying married for the kids?

ps. I wanted to add you are a role model to your children staying in a situation for the sake of your children is potentially more destructive than getting out of the situation, by the fact that they are witnessing either directly or indirectly your relationship with your husband you all deserve to ...

Re: staying married for the kids?

I'm so sorry to hear of your difficulties. I didn't want to read and run but wanted to suggest perhaps you speak to a councillor / therapist as a starting point to enable you to sort through some of the issues... take it one step at a time. Perhaps this will give you some mental relief. You mention ...

Re: Santa Claus and presents - dilemna

Another way to look at it.. and I didn't not think of this until I read someone posting about this on my Facebook around Xmas was a plea for parents to be modest re. their gifts from "Santa". That not all parents have the money to spend lavishly on presents from "Santa" - so how ...

Re: Hoover - Dyson, Henry or Miele

Miele all the way! Very good and quiet. Lasts for years and years. We got ours after our cleaner refused to use our Dyson (which came with the house we were in..we didn't buy it)... she said she wanted a Miele. She complained about the Dyson.... then my mom visited who also owns a Miele and she comp...

Re: Did you have to fight for an epidural at St Georges?

I had a really great birth experience at St. George's (but was a planned c-section) and had excellent after care. I couldn't fault it. Far better than St. Thomas' but under two very different circumstances! If you are anxious about it I would ask to speak to the head midwife or maternity nurse and c...

Re: Buying our dream house but its got damp?

Get the damp survey done! It could be the biggest mistake if you don't know what you are buying. I think it would be mad to proceed without it. I think it is pretty outrageous they won't wait for the survey. Also another buyer will likely want to get one as well when the survey reveals damp. There w...

Re: Reception Application question...

twice_as_nice is absolutely right! The order you put schools will have no bearing on whether you get in or not- it is done only on the criteria as outlined on Wandsworth school admissions website. But you will get on waitlists or place released back into the pool of schools as per your preference or...

Re: Should I have a back up school planned?

Could you call the Council and schools and find out if Sept 2014 intake was an exceptionally oversubscribed year? My son started reception in Sept and I know that this year was crazily oversubscribed! Perhaps this means Sept 2015 won't be as busy... in our area I heard that the nursery schools are n...

Overseas mover - recommendation!

Please could anyone recommend a company to ship our stuff from London to Canada?
Any recommendations most gratefully received. We want to get some comparative quotes. So far we have DT Moving coming to do a site visit.
We want a company that will take care of all packing and documentation.

Thanks!
