Re: Face masks

@ronangel, @luvnyrick - it must be so exhausting always contradicting anything that anyone who knows what they are talking about says, but anyway I do hope you sleep well, without too many nightmares. Someone we know died of COVID.  Basically over 3 - 4 days his lungs lost the ability to process oxy...

Re: Face masks

Oh for heaven's just wear one and be done with it.  It won't harm you, and it may even save your - or someone else's - life.  And it may be seen by your fellow citizens as something helpful and responsible.

Re: is wine a good thing to invest in?

If you are serious about investing as opposed to "having a flutter" then probably not unless you know a lot about it.  Mind you, that's the same with any investment.

Re: can someone please clarify, are cleaners allowed in lockdown

I think the law does allow them, but personally I think it has to be a joint decision with the cleaner taken if at all possible against an understanding that his / her wages will still be paid whatever decision is taken.  We had the discussion on the phone with our cleaner this afternoon.  I couldn'...

It’s time we all concentrated on what’s right for ourselves and not try and police others.

Enjoy your short time on this planet. Posts like this need to stop.
Actually what's much more important, especially in these circumstances, is never to lose sight of what's right for others.

Re: Explain this London at tier 4 with all the hype, why was biggest virus hospital emptied and closed, with more cases?

ally30_1998 - completely support you.  In a national health emergency we simply have to accept some restrictions on eg free speech that in other circumstances we wouldn't.  And if we really want to do more for NHS staff than clap on our doorsteps, then this is our chance.  Personally (and I'm in the...

Re: Recommendations for Victorian Tiles in Front Garden

Not sure about the tiles - ours were done very well a long time ago, but I can't remember who by. But for the front door, a very big, completely unreserved, recommendation for The Bespoke Front Door Company https://www.bespokefrontdoor.co.uk/.  They are not the cheapest, but the service included a s...

Re: Face masks

I'm very - and genuinely - sorry if your grandson has COVID and is in isolation.  I congratulate him on taking responsibility and isolating, as it will protect others, and hope he makes a complete recovery.   All you can do is reduce risk - you can never eliminate it.  And masks do that, so everyone...

Re: Face masks

Well I guess if you commented in English people might have some idea what you were on about.   But in any event - could you please let us know what your grandson's qualifications are, and why we should listen to him rather than medical professionals.  Anyway I do hope he (and you) remain safe, given...

Re: Cleaners and tier 4

It's obviously lower risk if your cleaner wears a mask (which personally I think you would be entirely within your rights to require) rather than not wearing one, and lower still if s/he doesn't come at all.

Re: Cleaners and tier 4

Our cleaner, at her own initiative, has been wearing a mask since all this started.  And if you do cancel your cleaner, I think you should keep paying, unless you really can't.

Re: Whose teenage kids are these? Persistent vandalism and drug use at the Bowling Green.

First of all Julian, you have misread this - it said 'footfall' not 'football' and I think the point remains. this_is_cat:  I know Julian, though I'm anonymous here.  I simply don't believe he makes 'abhorrent assumptions about class and skin colour'.  We've already got enough trouble in the world w...

Re: Who's teenage kids are these? Persistent vandalism and drug use at the Bowling Green.

I don't know who these kids are, but this is a really interesting question for those who oppose the Putt in the Park proposals (with which I have absolutely no connection).  This is what happens when facilities become derelict - so to those who oppose PitP, what do you propose realistically, given h...

Re: Solar panels for residential house

I'm not sure if this really answers your question, as it is based on a study which looked at installing solar panels on the large flat roof of a block of flats, not on a domestic property. However - you will reduce your carbon footprint, but the economics depends on the pattern of your consumption b...
