Help needed - paediatrician recommendation. Very worried

Postby Leungvivian » Sun Oct 19, 2014 12:48 am

Hi,

I've just discovered that my 7 months son hasn't put on any weight for the last 6 weeks. At the last weigh in he had gradually dropped his percentile on the growth chart. But my husband and I are both small so the health visitor said just see how the weaning goes and come back in a month. He then got 2 colds during that time and we were away visiting relatives in Australia. So have only just come back Friday.

I'm now extremely worried and feeling guilty at the same time. And even though it's expensive (as our insurance won't cover it) we want to seek help from a paediatrician as soon as possible.

So please could anyone recommend a paediatrician for us. Our son is otherwise well, hitting developmental milestones. Other than being a bad sleeper and the lack of weight gain, seems perfectly well in himself.

Thank you in advance

Elia Maalouf at the clinic opposite the Portland was great when my 8 month old daughter had severe nappy rash. GP and even paediatric A&E had said it was normal (to be bleeding!) so I went privately. He immediately changed her diet and sorted the problem (it took time as it had gone on for a while) but at every stage I had confidence we were moving in the right direction. He's really nice and professional.

It sounds ok to me - I think he probably just ate less because of the colds.

But Dr Fish at the Portland or Markyewitz at the Cromwell are both good.

Good luck.

I don't have a private paediatrician to recommend for this sort of thing but I just wanted to say try not to worry too much. Both of mine were tiny little babies and both are still small children (both myself and my husband are small). Neither of my kids were ever on the correct line in the red book and if they ever got ill their weight would drop off the cliff as they didn't really have much to lose! I think it's just the way if you and your husband are both small.

Elia Maalouf is my daughter's paediatrician and has been since her birth, including helping her gain weight at the start. He's a lovely guy and we have loads of confidence in him. He shares a practice with Dr Murray, who is also good. Good luck and I'm sure you'll be put at ease soon.

We are currently seeing Ahmed Massoud at Great Portland hospital. He was recommended to me by a colleague and so far we are very satisfied the way he deals with our case. We've had terrible experiences with gp and emergency at C&W. So it was a relief that we finally deal with someone who actually cares and thinks outside the box, rather than telling us to take paracetemol and all will be fine.
