How much is the typical cost of a private birth including antenatal care and all the essential scans?

I have heard birth at Lindo Wing with antenatal care by consultant + scans + misc totalling to around £22k (for a normal birth, not c-sec). Is that typical?

Hi there,

I had my little girl 9 months ago at the Kensington Wing. Our final bill was£23,000. That included c-section, consultant led treatment, all my scans, blood tests and I stayed for 4 nights.
Your bill can obviously vary depending on if you need or want extra scans and how many nights you stay for. It's nearly a £1000 a night to stay so if you can get away with just staying a few nights you obviously will save a lot of money. Hope this helps.

Hi there.
There are options for partners to stay overnight on the postnalal ward in most NHS hospitals now. Kingston has this facility, a recliner chair by the bed on a ward or also has a number of single rooms that can be paid for with partner staying as well. C & W provides a normal arm chair for partners whilst St. George's also has recliners. At St. Thomas' partners can stay over after the birth in the Home from Home. Not sure what happens on the general postnatal ward.
If you do decide to go down the private midwife route can second Neighbouhood Midwives. I have taught a couple of women who have booked with them and know a couple of the midwives too - really great outfit.
Regarding some negative experiences some of you have had, please know it is never acceptable for any midwife to make a new Mum feel inadequate etc. no one should ever be shouted at. If that happens, and it in no way is typical of ANY hospital, always get your partner to complain - harder when your are recovering from birth! I am a volunteer Maternity Services User Rep and have always been encouraged to get women and their partners to speak out - the management will only be grateful.

Hi,
I had my little girl at St.Thomas's this year. It came to £28,000 I beleive. This included c-section, a weeks stay for me and my partner, toiletries, excellent food etc... This doesn't cover the cost of a private Obstiatricion who charges separately, nor the private scans, blood tests etc that I had monthly atThe Portland Hospital and Harley street. In total we spent in excess of £40K.....eek! But the best money I have spent (three times lol.)

We paid around 15k in total for Consulant led care at The Kensginton Wing and with a c section staying in two nights.

If you look at what Keith Duncan he does package so all of your scans after 20 weeks are included.
We had on average one a fortnight which was fantastic, Keith or one of his colleagues was also on call 24/7 with any issues.
