Sound proof windows?!

Postby Elehq » Thu Dec 19, 2024 11:23 am

Hello,
Looking for recommendations.
Have anyone installed sound proof/ acoustic windows to block planes or road noise? Did it work?

We are looking for recommendations of companies that provide good service and quality product for a reasonable price.

Thank you!

I am not aware of any sound-proof windows that work, although many will say that they can reduce the noise.

The key thing to remember is that whilst standard double glazing is good for thermal insulation, sound proofing needs a decent gap between each pane of glass.  Secondary glazing (effectively a window inside a window) is your best option - although not as asthetically pleasing as a traditional window, but will do the job.  If you want to really go belt and braces go for a sealed double glazed window, and add secondary glazing  inside that - that should cut out 95% of any noise.

Ecovia in Battersea supply bespoke windows. We have had triple glazed windows and sliding doors installed. Superb quality certainly make a huge difference to external noise and significantly reduce fuel bills.

Have a chat with Stephen at Sashed. They do vacuum sealed glazing with good sound insulation. They might have other options too so he’ll be able to talk you through everything.

We used City Sound Glazing to install secondary double glazing when we moved to a house on a busy road and it is brilliant. There were already double-glazed timber windows in good condition so we weren't sure how much difference it would make but it cuts out all the noise (sirens, lorries etc) and we now never notice the road. I can't recommend them enough. It only takes a few weeks' lead time from memory and they install in a day and they refitted our shutters too.
