Best double buggy recommendations for toddler and new baby

Postby Biscuit » Fri Jan 04, 2013 10:45 pm

Hello,
We are expecting our second baby in 7 weeks' time and today I discovered that my 2 year old son is going to be too big to turn our Icandy into a double buggy. Nothing like leaving these things to the last minute!

He seemed to fit the Phil & Teds double buggy in John Lewis today. Do any of you have any good recommendations for double buggies and the best one for a very tall toddler who isn't old enough to walk for himself yet?

And if any of you have one for sale, please let me know.

Thanks so much x

I also have a phil and teds dash double buggy in excellent condition. Comes with double kit, double rain cover, uv cover and travel bag.

It's only 18 months old but my son is now at school and it's an excellent pushchair. It's advertised on this site.

Let me know if you are interested.

my advice, buy one of the used ones! With a 2 year old, your likely only to use it for 18months.

Good Luck!

the other thing to be wary of is the weight issue - I have a rather heavy toddler! There is a 22 month gap between my children and the older one was 16kg by the time the baby arrived - this really limits your double buggy options as Mclaren, mothercare, britax etc say the upper weight limit per seat is 15kg. Just thinking if your toddler is tall he may also be heavier than average?!
I found the P&T and the mountain buggy were amongst the few to take higher weights. I have a 2nd hand P&T which I found very useful for 1st few weeks when my newborn fitted the cocoon but otherwise I loathe it and stick to using buggy with buggyboard/older child on scooter wherever possible...
(reasons I dislike P&T are its very cumbersome, handle height too low, no room in basket underneath when little legs grow a bit, legs kick back seat when you convert it to 2 upright style etc etc - I'm very glad I got it second hand!)

Hi there I have a Phil and Teds Dash double buggy for sale for a very good price if you are interested. It has all the accessories, new born nest, rain cover, sun shade, drinks and wallet holder plus accessory to turn back seat into bouncy chair. It worked perfectly for my two girls lots of room and I found the Phil and Teds very easy to handle and sturdy, which is key when you have two in it. The buggy board didn't work for me on my previous buggy as my eldest got tired standing so I suppose it really depends on the toddler and what you are after but I think it's a really good buggy. I didn't find the handle too low as mine is adjustable and I'm quite tall but I was very happy with it. It's in pretty good condition, missing one mudgard but apart from that all good!

I bought it new and have had it 2.5 years will sell it and all the accessories for £150 if you are interested.

Hi! How exciting. I have the same gap and its been lovely. I have a red Out'n About side by side buggy that we used to start with. It's really nice and cosy for the baby and nicer I think than slotting one of the smalls under the other! We found we only needed it for a couple of months and my older one now scoots or goes on the buggy board on my little buggy. You are very welcome to mine. I bought it second hand and its in good but not immaculate condition so I would only want £60 for it - including the fleecy baby liners that I bought new. Let me know if you are interested. Best of luck! K

Hi, I've got a barely used (used only 3ce or so) Maclaren double buggy- with accesories. Like you my older child was quite a tall toddler. I found the Maclaren worked quite well for us because of its lightweight, we didn't use it very much though because our nanny alredy had hers which she preferred to use. Do let me know if you are interested-i seriously need to declutter ;) and will sell it for a bargain. You'll only use it for a couple of months probably before your older one starts scooting along!

Would you like my second hand Out n About buggy? My twins have grown out of it and it's just gathering dust! It comes with lovely snuggly sleeping bags too!

I've got the mountain buggy duet and love it. I had planned to convert my icandy but due to lack of stock, I was unable to and I'm very pleased as the duet is fantastic. Same width as the icandy and it is easier to push I think because of the air tyres. Even with a 2yr old on one side and a baby on the other it still steers straight!

I've been looking for a double which will also work well as a single sometimes - is there anything out there apart from the phil and teds? I had my heart set on a P&T dot but I have tried it and can't believe how heavy it is! Is there anything out there which is lighter? I'd really like it to be capable of being a double sometimes even though I will probably just have either toddler in buggy (and baby in baby bjorn) or baby in carrycot on top of buggy while toddler is at nursery... does that make sense??

We have the Baby Jogger City Select which we found brilliant for baby and toddler. My elder son could still stay forward facing and see everything whilst the baby was parent-facing and high up. I mostly used our Cabriofix car seat instead of a carrycot and it worked really well. There was plenty of room for my older son, even when he was 3, not cramped at all. There's also a very big basket at the bottom.

It's very easy to convert from single to double, I did it on a daily basis depending on who I was pushing. Don't have much bad to say about it. Am about to very reluctantly sell ours as my boys now never need a pushchair. No point it living in the garage, but it breaks my heart that my pushchair days are over!
