Actually it's fact, like I say I know the parents, but each to their own!

Knowing someone or believing you do doesn't make it true.

Its about scale, proportion, %'s etc

You could be talking about an isolated incident, in which the protagonists may challenge your interpretation.

I'm not saying you shouldn't be frustrated just that the full picture based on hard facts, not rumour & innuendo, might look a bit different.

OK.

That being the case, would you mind presenting those hard facts?

I just wanted to say that although you may have only received your 4th choice of school for reception, it's highly likely that places will open up in Y1, y2 etc....if you enjoy living where you do and private schooling is beyond your means then go with 4th choice for now and keep on top of vacancies in your preferred schools in the next couple of years. I have 2 friends who have done this. Good luck. And FWIW I think the birth rate has a lot more to do with oversubscribed schools than dubious renters!

i'll take to that to mean exactly what it looks like.

which is my point, its a lot easier to talk a big game when evidence isn't required.

What would you have the relevant authority do in such circumstances? Just trust you?

Scottov - it can't be that hard just to check if the rental is long-term or short. And if really a family of 4 is living in 1 one room on Webbs road.
My friends kid is going to Bellevile and few mums there did confess to renting next door to Belleville to get in.

blueskies - I don't live between the commons, but I can understand how frustrating this is for you. I've always known that I have to go private and like you I'm becoming very afraid of the added pressure fees (x 2 in a few year's time!) will bring to my life.

My son is starting reception at one of the private schools this september and I'm now wondering if I'm not missing a trick, by not putting him into a state school first to try it out - even if it will be my 4th or 5th choice. If things don't work out, I feel quite confident that I would be able to get him into a private school in Y1/Y2/Y3...

Has anyone tried this strategy? Put their kids into a school they weren't keen on and then later swapped them into a private school when it didn't work out? Or indeed put them into a school they didn't anticipate liking and then it worked out well anyway?

what is wrong with living in earls field??!
i moved from between the commons to get away from snotty nosed mums like you. it is this superior complex that mums like you walk around with that causes this divide in schools…gossip at the school gates. i did however keep my flat between the commons that i rent and i have had many a parent wanting to rent it merely for the school issue- i have not gone down that route but reading the high and mighty comments from some parents i am actually willing to do so out of spite.
wake up and smell the coffee..the fact that your child will have an education is a privilege period and if you can't afford the private fees then move somewhere else…but not earlsfield.

Scottov - here you go, one system cheater for you.
FYI I have only mentioned earlsfields as I know families from there cheating the system, noone has suggested that there is anything wrong with living there.
Orangeytree, I was only implying the fact that it is NOT your local school, not sure what gave you an idea about between the conmons being somehow better or have snotty mums like me?... Maybe you can explain yourself instead of jumping to wrong conclusions and confrontations?
All the best!

Ha ha, well said orange tree. I do feel that some mums have far too much time on their hands. As a single mum of a 4 year old, I work full time and I wish some mums on this site would "wake up and smell the coffee" and realise what is important in life, not just what present they should get their gardener for Xmas... Anyway, as I can't bear wasting my precious time reading any of this anymore, I wish you all good luck and this is adieu from me.

Just a question - is it renters moving in to rent in the catchment or the sibling policy (for those that have moved out) that is the issue? or both? or ?

Also Earlsfield has a lot of great schools and many families here (I live in Earlsfield) also have issues getting their kids into Beatirx Potter, Allfarthing and Earlsfield Primary for example! Don't think many are renting the other side of the Common . Same issue in Balham with Ravenstone! It's all over this borough and apparently all over London!

Beatrix Potter, imho, has a much better system in terms of their catchment area and policy - much more clear cut and fair.

Too many kids and too few good schools....
In Canada where I am from there is a clear mapped boundary for each school - you know exactly which is your school and if you move your kids goes to school locally to where you live. You can apply of course to get into a non local /boundary school and they usually have a lottery system for oversubscribed schools where people apply out of the school boundary. Seems simpler and more clear cut.

Good luck - I understand your frustration (we almost bought between the Commons but decided against it because of the school issue).

Yes, yes, yes! I so agree re boundaries. I just don't get why Wandsworth don't introduce this system. To me it would be the fairest way as it wouldn't discriminate against those who rare genuinely renting but it would mean people who rent short-term to get one child into school would have to move their child when they move out of area. This way the schools would be local schools and people who live a short distance wouldn't end up sending their child to a school miles away. Is this not common sense?
