Kids friendly club with swimming pool

Postby Btwmum » Thu Dec 14, 2023 1:46 pm

My husband is part of one of these stuffy clubs in St James, plus a more relaxed work type club in Covent Garden with loads of interesting evenings and he has been asked to join Annabelle’s. I do not think these clubs suit us too much as they are adult only so we do not end up going too often. I would like to join a club with a pool where we can go with the kids for lunch on Saturday and Sunday. An adult club that allows families time on weekends with some pool, tennis etc. Do they exist?
I do not want a child family club (as Purple Dragon) as our kids are nearly in secondary school and they are busy with activities. I do not think a sport club would be suitable as we will not go for sport over the week and we would like to have some other social activities too. it would be good to have a place where we can go as adults for lunch/dinner, talks, book/chess clubs but would allow us to go with the kids for lunch and some sports, like swimming, tennis.
In the US there are loads of country clubs that offer the whole package, but I cannot find any in London.
Any lead appreciated! Thank you!

I don’t think they exist in London like they do in the US. The Harbour club has a restaurant, pools and tennis but is primarily a sports club. The Hurlingham Club is probably closer to what you want but I think their waiting list is closed and even when it’s open it’s about 20 years. The Roehampton Club may be your best bet - they talk about having social activities as well as having an outdoor pool. I’ve never been but it looks nice on their website. https://www.roehamptonclub.co.uk

Try the Birch - is about 15 mins or 20 mins by train into Croydon looks great for kids and adults. Couldn’t post the link but it’s the birch community.com.

It's a huge gap in the market. Birch has just gone into administration. Every winter we consider David lloyd for exactly this but it's not very close and gets poor reviews. I would pay a lot for a local country club with both outdoor & indoor pools!

We were members of Birch and it was absolutely brilliant. A bit chaotic, but exactly what we needed - loads of space, very relaxed and a lovely pool. Had great kids events but also really good for dinner, drinks and a stay overnight. Very sad it’s gone. Hoping someone will buy it and then start it up again so looking out for that too
