Family-Friendly Travel Destinations for Summer 2024

Postby makhija » Sat Jun 22, 2024 2:59 pm

Hi everyone!

With summer just around the corner, I'm starting to plan our family vacation and could use some inspiration. We have two kids (ages 5 and 8) and are looking for destinations that are both fun and family-friendly. Ideally, we'd love a mix of relaxation and activities to keep the little ones entertained.

Here are a few specifics we're looking for:

Warm weather
Good range of family accommodations (hotels, resorts, or vacation rentals)
Activities suitable for young children (e.g., theme parks, zoos, kid-friendly hiking trails)
Safe and welcoming environment for families
We are open to both domestic and international travel. If you have any recommendations based on your own experiences or know of any hidden gems, I'd love to hear them!

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

With children that age and the risk of extreme heat events around the Mediterranean I would seriously consider staying in UK. Cornwall ticks most of your boxes and the children will enjoy just messing around on the beach. My adult children regularly comment that holidays in Cornwall were the best they ever had. Lots of accommodation ranging from holiday cottages to luxury hotels. The older child might be interested in a surf or sailing school. And you can do all of this while cutting your carbon emissions!

Gulf...? UAE... In July....? With the temperatures in mid 40s....? Probably the last place you should consider!

Numerous lodging options, from charming cottages to five-star hotels. A sailing or surf school could be a good fit for the older  spacebar clicker

Last Minute Availability at this family friendly holiday cottage in Anglesey. Sleeps 9 for £1245 from Monday 15th July to Monday 22nd - Tyn Lon on Boltholes and Hideaways website.

Lots of gorgeous beaches (10 min stroll away from Lligwy beach - sandy beach with cafe). Great for walks, surfing, rock-pooling, castles, ancient Roman villages and more. Snowdonia and the zipwire are a short drive away. Lots of activities on Anglesey for families. See visit Wales website.

When my kids were 6 and 8 we went to Borneo. Had a great time. The Shangri-La near the airport (Tanjung Aru) has a fun little water park. Then we went to visit an island where we saw turtles laying eggs (and hatching), then to an orang utan sanctuary and then we went down the Kinabantangan River where we stayed in a jungle lodge and went out on boat trips where we saw monkeys, hornbills, wild orang utans etc. Then back to the other Shangri-La (Rasa Ria) which was gorgeous. It's a good time of year to visit (unlike other destinations in Asia) and the kids get an amazing geography lesson. One of our best holidays!

How about sunny North Norfolk coast? Easy to get to and plenty to do once you are up there. Very family friendly with beaches, a zoo plus loads of excellent foodie pubs.

Very unusually I have availability until 27th July plus two weeks in August.... Taylors Barn

Perfect for a family of up to 6. Huge games room. Extra 10% discount if you mention Nappy Valley when making a booking.

Hope to hear from you or anyone  :)

Costa Rica might be a great option. We took our kids there last year, and it was perfect for both relaxation and activities. We stayed at a small place called JungleVistaHotel.com, which was really close to both the beach and a national park. The kids loved exploring the trails and spotting monkeys and birds. There were also some easy hikes that were perfect for their age, and the nearby beach was super safe for swimming. The place had a laid-back vibe but still plenty to do, so everyone was happy.
