Rate Chinese lang schools

Postby supermoomoo » Mon Aug 12, 2013 5:45 pm

Hi there

just wanted to see if anyone in SW london has any sage advice / exepriences of sending their little kiddies to weekend or supplementary chinese language schools - starting from young say 3ish up?
Or have friends having experiences with a group which ran good (or not so good) classes?
there seem to be a lot more choices in north london but seems bereft in this part . Have I got it wrong?

What a coincidence, I've been googling this today, I've been searching for a class for a long time! Found Kids Language Club at Oliver House in Clapham which is on Sat mornings. I'm not sure if its what I really want though.

The ones I've found through Nappyvalleynet seem to be for younger children under 3.

There is a much needed immersion class to be created in this area. Unfortunately I don't know of any teachers to set it up!

I contacted them (KLC) previously bcos they advertised that they run toddler groups but that never took off so we ended up going to a playgroup in Wimbledon. But now that my daughter is about to start playschool on weekday mornings , the choices are v limited for afternoon sessions, unless perhaps we try to run an after school session which is a possibility as I might know some who would do it but only if I can get enough kids.
I would like to get a Chinese toddler group going again but once she reaches 3... I think a proper language school is the next stage...? I have researched a few places that are closer to Victoria or belgravia but nothing on the side . I wonder any schools / parents will respond to this thread! :)

supermoomoo or anyone else - if you do find a class for older kids then pls let me know my eldest is going to be 5 and I hate having to go into Chinatown. He understands me (Cantonese) but would not speak it.

Hi

I was looking for Chinese language school for my daughter (10 years old), and son (4 years old) and hopefully later for my youngest 7 month old son in this area but could not find anything. There are many based in north London and Chinatown but travelling with all three is a nightmare, therefore never considered it.

If anyone knows of any classes running in this area I will be very interested, I speak Cantonese (though very broken) and would actually like classes myself. I think a Chinese school in this area is very much needed.

I can not believe I found this thread and that I didn't think to post anything on this before!!! THANK YOU!!! :D

Dear all, just read your post and I think Dragons in Europe will be able to help. They specialise in providing Chinese teachers and resources for children aged 3 to 16 yrs old. They have a fantastic online resource called primaryschoolschinese.com with lots of interactive learning material. Their main company website is dragonsineurope.com and their telephone number is 0207 228 8501 or you could call Marcus on 07766491465. Hope this will be of some help to you all. Thanks

Whoops, it should read primaryschoolchinese.com. have a look as it has really developed and is an amazing site with interactive homework and games enabling children to test their understanding in a fun and informal manner. Definitely an innovative way of learning and a great supplement to face to face teaching.

We would join you all but Marcus is my husband so one benefit is that we all get free tuition from him and our children test all the online homework and games before they are launched!
