Treohans - Abbeville Road

Postby Pud1 » Sat Feb 01, 2014 5:56 pm

Does anyone know what's happening with Treohans? I just drove past and they seem to be gutting the place.

I have heard it's going to be a Co-op.

Oh no. We really don't need another supermarket. Sainsburys is responsible for the demise of many businesses on Abbeville Road. Looks like Treohans is the latest victim.

Oh no! I don't even live in abbeville anymore but still pop back for all sorts of odds and ends. What a shame. We need shops like that don't we?!

Just drove past again and it's definitely gone. I find that really sad as it was a long established local business.

I really dont think Sainsburys is the big enemy; Treohans grocers was vastly over priced - and the old little grocers/newsagent oposite was just grotty! I would rather be looking at how many estate agents there are in just a couple of 100 yards! I personally welcome anything thats not hair/beauty or estate agents. something else to compliment the fab Ginger Pig butchers. I'd like maybe a good pharmacy. But please no more estate agents!!!

I do agree to a degree mummymvh. It's not all down to Sainsburys, and it is useful having it there. I just don't like seeing local businesses go under. There are so many empty shops on Abbeville Rd at the moment. I agree, no more estate agents required!

Yes, it's definitely going to be a Co-op mini supermarket. While I don't think we necessarily need another supermarket or another chain store, Treohans did not do themselves any favours by selling out of date food and by overcharging. Last year they charged me 65 Pounds for a standing fan that they'd bought for 19.95 from B&Q as a job lot - they even left the brand name on the packaging!! I agree though - no more estate agents please! What about an Indian restaurant to replace the Village Tandoori? Or a good Chinese restaurant? Or a wine & tapas bar?

Yes, a good curry house would be great. I liked the Village Tandoori people. It was a shame that they didn't seem to get the restaurant quite right. I second a good Chinese too. They are few and far between.
Don't feel so bad about Treohans now I've heard about the fan!

The old curry house is meant to be becoming an upmarket fish and chip shop and rumour is Treohans the hardware part are taking over the old Village Shop. Treohans had it seemed become complacent and also especially for a premium local shop it would have been nice if they were more friendly…

I don't know what is happening to the clothes shop by the boulangerie as the lease for that is also now under offer...

Quite like the idea of posh fish 'n chips! Hardware transferring to a smaller shop would also be goo, plus a smile! No more hairdressers are needed either. I wouldn't mind if the boulangerie expanded. I like going there.

I heard Treohans are reopening their hardware shop further down the road near Newtons, just a rumour can anyone confirm?

Hello everyone

Hardware store has moved into the clothes store next to the boulangerie. They're fitting out the shop atm. Opening within a week or so. Great news that it stays in the street.

I live in Abbeville village and apparently, treohans is moving to the clothes shop the abbey (we have seen the owners in there) and it will just be the handy shop, it has been sold to co-op and the Indian will be posh fish and chips. At least it is better than another real estate agent!

It's good to see that the old village shop has been smartened up, with the original facade restored. I peered in and am wondering if that is going to be the posh fish and chips shop as I could see some big ovens. Anyone know?
