Parking ticket at tooting leisure centre

Postby newbalhammum » Thu Nov 06, 2014 7:36 pm

I've tonight got a ticket for parking over two bays at tooting leisure centre at a cost of £65. I want to state that this was unavoidable as they are doing work and have fenced off some bays and a car that parked closest to the fence was slightly over and I parked next to that car with enough room to get out my baby seat. Feels a rather harsh punishment. Do I have to pay it - anyone got any other experiences of this and tactics for appealing.

Is it a ticket from the council or from a private company who manage the car park?

You don't have to pay private ones. Read Martin Lewis's info on this (the link above). I had a ticket from a private company a while back. I wrote a letter to them explaining why it was unfair, and stated I would not pay. I received about 8 letters, progressively more threatening, then they stopped. I read lots about this at the time, and all the advice said do not pay, appeal explaining why the charge is unjust and state why you will not pay. Hope that helps.

Laura9 is quite right, the ticket is NOT a fine. They have effectively invoiced you for breach of contract.

When we had one years ago a friend who used to invest in one of these companies advised us to just ignore it and whatever we do, don't engage with them and don't acknowledge the 'ticket'.

We took his advice and received a couple of letters which we also ignored and then they just went away.

If I was in your position I would jut throw it in the bin.

Hello, please do not pay this invoice. Try to approach the manager of the Centre first but then do go to MoneySavingExpert. They will advise you and you WILL get the invoice cancelled. Good luck!
