If the Daily Fail don't like it that's another reason for me to go there!

Milk is very expensive, it’s on my avoid list. £6 for Soughdough and some jam is ridiculous.

I have watched other local restaurants keep pushing up their prices, Megan’s is getting pricey now, lunch for £20 minimum.

Mates of mine know the owners of Brinkleys, they keep keep pushing up their prices to see how much people will pay - it used to be good value, not any more.

Chez Bruce menu is now really expensive and not good value anymore in my view.

I watch Five Guys put up their prices on average twice a year now, 5-10% at a time, an expensive meal now.

Lahore kharai’s in Tootings prices have almost doubled in the last 4 years for a curry.

The only way to stop this constant inflation at restaurants is to avoid the places like Milk, Megan’s and Brinkleys.

Some great websites around, like First Table that give you 50% off many restaurants if you take an early table.

The trouble is, I bet they are still struggling to make a profit. There are a few fairly priced places around that are good. Like Al Gusto on Northcote Rd.

Definitely agree with SW11er re Al Gusto. It’s always been reasonably priced and great food- the new expanded menu is impressive. Also, Buona Sera for great food at a fair price.

I think people are easily taken in by cafés.

But 'café-society' was never about higher prices it was a lower cost way of eating out.

Nowadays they'll have you sitting on a hard wooden wobble ex-school chair for the privilege, too lol

Let’s not slag off local businesses who I’m sure are putting their prices up because they’re struggling to make ends meet, especially after the pandemic.

Chez Bruce used to be ridiculously cheap - it’s now a little more pricey yes but for the quality of food it’s still good value compared to other Michelin starred restaurants. My daughter worked in a (different) Michelin starred restaurant and she said they make no money on food - just on drinks. Which is very sad given the time and talent, not to mention high end ingredients, they put into the meals.

We should be supporting these local businesses as best we can - they add to the vibrancy of our local high streets and keep your house prices high! No one wants to move to a dead area.

Personally I agree with the verdict on Milk. It is very much a case of the Emporer's New Clothes for me. Queues around the block in Balham a place that is chokka with good brunch places, why bother? It's just not that good! The food is tasty, good ingredients but am I queing? NO. Am I paying £6 for a slice of toast, also no. And the coffees are served in thimbles. They bought Juliette's to Tooting and it is dingy, dark and arsey service and they still charge these BS prices. As my Grandad would say, Get out of it!

Now, Chez Bruce I will defend to the end. I went there on Saturday and that place just gets better and better. It is michelen starred, the food is literally out of this world, the service, the wine it is just everything you want from a great meal. I did not go there for a 'good value' meal. I went there for something special. I expect to pay what it is worth, I go there once every 5 years because of this but I wouldn't change a thing.

People need to stop bargain hunting in michelen star restaurants and Gen Z **** take brunch places need to stop charging you £6 for a piece of bread.

In any case what a nice situation to be in where we have so much choice and eating out is even an option.
